Historically, Songs of Ascent were also called: gradual Psalms, Song of Degrees, Songs of Steps, Songs of Going up to Worship and Pilgrim Songs. They were believed to be sung by worshippers as they ascended the road to Jerusalem to attend Three Pilgrim Festivals. Others believe they were sung by Levite singers as they ascended the 15 steps to minister in the Temple in Jerusalem – (since there were, actually, 15 steps that were climbed.) They were always characterized by brevity and repetition.

But the angels and the Holy Spirit have not fallen silent in our day. The following is a Song of Ascent received recently and written down by Betsy – a gifted friend of ours.
